Scarecrow Cutting Board Craft
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Place the jumbo craft stick toward the top of the cutting board and draw a line with a pencil. Basecoat the top half of the cutting board and the jumbo craft stick with Honey Brown acrylic craft paint. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.
Measure and mark the jumbo craft stick to 4.5” long with a pencil. Trim the ends of the craft stick with scissors.
Dry brush the Milk Chocolate acrylic craft paint in a cross-hatch pattern on the scarecrow hat and brim. This will look like burlap. Let dry.
Basecoat the bottom half of the cutting board with Buttermilk acrylic craft paint. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP TWO
Attach the craft stick hat brim to the to the scare crow with a glue gun and glue sticks. You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP THREE
Cut an 8-inch section of raffia with scissors, and then cut in half. Tie the top of each bundle of raffia with natural jute twine, securing with a knot. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies that won’t blow your budget!
Attach the bundles of raffia to the left and right sides of the scarecrow with a glue gun and glue sticks. Use the hat brim to secure the raffia hair in the back.
STEP FOUR
Download, print, and cut out the SCARECROW PATTERNS from the bottom of this post. Trace onto Kunin Spiced Pumpkin Felt, and cut out with scissors. Kunin Classic Felt comes in 9″ by 12″ Craft Cuts that make all your DIY projects quick and easy since it won't fray when cut.
To create the scarecrow’s face, attach two brown buttons for eyes and the felt nose with a glue gun and glue sticks. Add cheeks by swirling a cotton swab dipped in Bubblegum Pink acrylic craft paint.
STEP FIVE
Tie an orange and white gingham ribbon in a bow and attach it to the scarecrow’s hat then glue a silk sunflower in the center. To finish, draw a smile from cheek to cheek with the MONO Twin permanent black marker, then create vertical stitches. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
