Dollar Tree Gnome Craft
STEP ONE
To begin the Fall Leaf Gnome, gather all supplies. Measure and draw a circle around the foam cone 3.5” from the top with a pencil.
STEP TWO
Measure 4” up from the tip of the silk oak leaves, and cut them in half horizontally with scissors. Repeat with 5 additional leaves. Set the top of the leaves with the stems aside.
Attach the bottom half of the silk leaves around the base of the foam cone with a glue gun and glue sticks. NOTE: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
Trim the tips from the remaining tops of the silk leaves. Fit these pieces in between, filling in all of the gaps. Secure them in place with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP THREE
Wrap the burlap ribbon around the gnome, gluing it in the back, and trim the excess ribbon with scissors. Repeat with a second layer of burlap ribbon, leaving ½” excess at the top of the foam cone. Attach with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Attach the right and left sides of the excess burlap with a glue gun and glue sticks. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies that won’t blow your budget!
Glue the top and bottom of the excess burlap to finish the top of the gnome’s hat. Make it fun and finish with an acorn on top!
Measure and cut an 8” length of burlap ribbon. Glue in half length-wise with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Starting at the back of the foam cone, attach the hat band to the bottom edge of the gnome’s hat with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP FOUR
Attach the wooden ball to the front center of the gnome with a glue gun and glue sticks. Make sure to tuck the nose under the hat band.
STEP FIVE
Tie black and white gingham ribbon into a bow. Trim the ribbon ends in a fishtail to prevent fraying.
Glue the gingham bow to the gnome’s hat and finish with a silk sunflower, attached in the center.
Basecoat one wooden dice with Warm Sunset acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
To finish, attach the painted wooden dice to the bottom of the foam cone with a glue gun and glue sticks.
