Here's how to create a Shamrock from Wine Corks
STEP ONE
To begin the Cork Shamrock, gather all supplies. Lay out 12 corks on your work surface. One cork, two corks, three corks, four corks, then two corks. Glue the corks together in rows. If you don't have enough wine corks saved up, these are pretty inexpensive.
STEP TWO
Stack and secure the one, two corks, three corks, and four corks in a pyramid shape with a glue gun and glue sticks. Attach the final two corks in between the first and second corks on the right and left sides to create a heart shape.
STEP THREE
Using 24 corks, create two additional cork hearts following the steps above. If using liquid craft glue, hold the corks together with a rubber band during the drying process.
STEP FOUR
Attach the three cork hearts together at the base of each heart with a glue gun and glue sticks. Secure the last 5 corks in a curved row from the base of the shamrock with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP FIVE
Starting with the darkest color, paint one-third of the ends of the corks with Holly Green acrylic craft paint using a basecoat or flat paintbrush. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.
STEP SIX
Paint a second grouping of one-third of the ends of the corks with Festive Green acrylic craft paint using a paintbrush. Some of the red wine stains will bleed through the paint, which gave the project a rustic look. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP SEVEN
Using a basecoat paintbrush, paint the remaining ends of the corks with Foliage Green acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. Paint the corks in a random pattern.
STEP EIGHT
To finish the Cork Shamrock, tie an 8″ length of ribbon into a bow, and then attach it to the center of the cork shamrock with a glue gun and glue sticks. I love how the black and white gingham ribbon sets off the green side of the shamrock, and how the rainbow stripe ribbon accents the natural side of the shamrock.
