Mason Jar Leprechaun

Sharing is caring!

Learn how to make a Mason Jar Leprechaun, a St. Patrick's Day DIY! One of my best friends has a St. Patrick's Day birthday (and he's Irish to boot!), so I am always looking for unique treats to make his day extra special!  Candy Coated Peanut Butter Candies from Dollar Tree are one of his favorites and create the perfect backdrop for this magically delicious Mason Jar Leprechaun!

Here's what you need to make a DIY Leprechaun:

.

Here's how to create a Leprechaun from a Mason Jar:

STEP ONE

To begin the Mason Jar Leprechaun craft, gather all supplies. I grabbed the candy, mason jar, and mini hats from my local Dollar Tree. The felt is my favorite from Kunin Felt Group.

STEP TWO

Separate the orange candies from the brown and yellow ones.  If peanut butter isn't your thing, use another orange-colored candy or fill the jar with a fun craft supply such as pom poms or beads.

STEP THREE

Place the recycled cardboard toilet paper tube in the center of the mason jar and fill it with crumpled paper towels. I did this to take up some space, but you can certainly fill up the entire jar with candy!

STEP FOUR

While holding onto the cardboard tube, carefully pour orange candies into the mason jar. Gently shake the jar to allow the candies to settle. Place the candies at the neck of the jar individually with your fingers to cover the top of the cardboard tube.

STEP FIVE

Download, print, and cut out the MASON JAR LEPRECHAUN PATTERNS from the bottom of this post ⇓  Using the MONOTWIN Permanent Marker, trace the face pattern onto cream felt, the mustache pattern onto orange felt, the buckle pattern onto gold glitter paper. Cut out all patterns with scissors. TIP: Cut on the inside of the traced lines for a cleaned finished project.

STEP SIX

Using a glue gun and glue sticks, attach the cream felt face, orange felt mustache, two large wiggle eyes, and the gold glitter pom pom nose referring to the photo for placement. You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.

STEP SEVEN

Remove the elastic cord and small staples from the plastic Leprechaun hat. Trace the shamrock pattern onto the neon green felt, cut out with scissors, and attach a Kelly green button to the center. Glue green gingham ribbon around the base of the hat and the gold glitter buckle to the front center, securing with the glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP EIGHT

To finish the Mason Jar Leprechaun, adhere the felt shamrock to the hat. Screw the lid onto the jar and place the hat tightly over the lid, centering the gold glitter buckle in the front.

Quick and Easy Mason Jar Leprechaun

Created with items from my stash and a few additions from the Dollar Tree my Mason Jar Leprechaun craft came together in just about 30 minutes with help from the kiddos!  This family activity teaches color, sorting, cutting, and counting skills as well as being tons of FUN!

If using the Mason Jar Leprechaun as a gift, be creative and fill the tube with cash or a gift card!  Pennies would be a cheeky filler OR use the yellow and brown candy-coated peanut butter candies if you didn't eat them all!
