Here's how to hand sew a Fortune Cookie Valentine:
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Download, print, and cut out the Kawaii Fortune Cookie Valentines patterns BELOW ⇓ Trace the circular fortune cookie pattern onto Cashmere Tan Kunin Felt with the MONOTWIN Permanent Marker. Cut out fortune cookie with scissors. TIP: Cut inside the traced line to create a clean finished project.
STEP TWO
Measure and cut a five inch length of Valentine's Day themed ribbon and fold in half to create a loop. Fold felt fortune cookie in half, insert ribbon loop and secure with straight pins. Thread tan embroidery floss onto an embroidery needle. I always use this needle threader to make my sewing life easier.
STEP THREE
The blanket stitch is my go to for creating dimensional projects that will be stuffed. It is super easy and not scary at all. Start by bringing your needle up about 1/4″ below the edge of the fabric edge, or the piece you are sewing on. In this case, the tan felt. Sew a little stitch about 1/4″ from the left of this one, putting the needle 1/4″ below the edge of the felt and bringing it out just above the felt. Make sure the needle passes over the loop of thread. Repeat this last step again to start forming the blanket stitch. Sew all the way around the fortune cookie, switching to a straight stitch to secure the ribbon loop, and leaving a two inch opening at the end for stuffing.
STEP FOUR
Stuff the Kawaii Fortune Cookie Valentines with Poly-Fil® from Fairfield World™. Stuff tighter at both ends and softer in the middle, so the cookie can be “folded” in the next step. I love to use a chopstick to get the Poly-Fil® in all the right places. Blanket stitch the opening closed. For the last stitch, loop it through the second to last stitch to make the thread lay flat.
STEP FIVE
Squeeze both ends of fortune cookie together to create a fold in the middle of the stuffed pillow. Apply a generous amount of hot glue to the fold and hold together until the glue cools. Add extra glue to the fold to create the perfect fortune cookie shape.
STEP SIX
Trace eyes and mouth onto Black Kunin Felt, heart onto Red Felt, and cheeks onto Light Pink Felt. Cut out all shapes with scissors. Thread white embroidery floss onto an embroidery needle and create a French Knot in both of the black felt eyes. Close to the point that the thread comes out of the fabric, hold your needle and wrap the thread around the needle 3 times. Hold the end of the thread with your thumb, and with your other hand put the needle point back in right next to where you brought it up. Pull the needle through the wrapped thread, holding lightly to the end until it’s all pulled through. This will form a French Knot! Attach Kawaii Fortune Cookie Valentines features with E6000 Fabri-Fuse Fabric Glue using the photo as a guide for placement.
