Here's what you need to make a Faux Tin Painted Farmhouse Finish:

.

Here's how to create a Painted Faux Tin Finish on any Surface:

STEP ONE

To begin the Faux Tin Farmhouse Finish Jar, gather all supplies. I found these super cute glass jars at Dollar Tree, but really anything goes. Use a container from the recycle bin, cover a wooden plaque, or update a plastic picture frame. The DecoArt Designer Finishes Oxidized Tin complete with the paints and mediums that you will need, plus step-by-step instructions.

STEP TWO

Covering the surface with Extreme Sheen Tin is the first step. Since the glass jar is smooth and slick, I am using a sponge dauber for this layer. If you are covering wood or paper Mache you can definitely use a paintbrush. This jar will be for decorative use only, should not come in contact with food, and cannot be washed. Let the basecoat dry completely.

STEP THREE

Mix DecoArt Extreme Sheen Tin with Texture Sand Medium in a four to one ratio (4:1) on a paper plate or palette with a palette knife. Apply this gritty mixture randomly to the entire surface with the palette knife. Make sure to cover small areas of the surface leaving plenty of the basecoat visible. I use my finger to smooth out any areas that look too geometric. Let dry completely.

STEP FOUR

Lightly brush on DecoArt Vintage Effect Wash White mixed in a four to one ratio (4:1) of water to paint. Dab the whitewash in small, random areas over the entire surface. I love how the wash collects in the Texture Sand Medium areas and creates drips within the pattern on the glass. Use a finger or paper towel to make all of the brushstrokes look organic. Let dry completely.

STEP FIVE

Repeat the above steps with DecoArt Vintage Effect Wash Black mixed in a four to one ratio (4:1) of water to paint. Dab black wash around the edges of the whitewash letting the paint collect in all of the nooks and crannies. I use my finger to move the black wash around to make the brushstrokes look random. Make sure to apply the black wash to some of the edges. If you have too much white and/or black wash, use a wet paper towel to remove some of the colors. If you have too little, add additional layers as the paint dries.
