A Trio of Foiled Tags with Therm-O-Web

Sharing is caring!

Last Saturday my creative world was shaken as my crafty partner in inspiration Laura with Laura Kelly Designs introduced me to Therm-O-Web's DecoFoil line of products. Today I am creating a Trio of Foiled Tags with my new-found shiny friends, and by a trio, I actually mean about three dozen, because I just couldn't stop myself!

Here's how to create Colorful Tags with Foil:

DECO FOIL TAG INSPIRATION

Today I was inspired by this quick make and take project that I watched Dawn from the Therm-O-Web Company create at a conference back in 2019. This time I used three different types of adhesive to foil onto the Trio of Foiled Tags.

HOW TO FOIL A TAG WITH TONER PAPER

Toner Paper Packs come in a variety of patterns, and solid sheets. Plus toner sentiments that can be foiled. Plug in and heat up the laminator. You don't need a fancy laminator, this basic one from Scotch Brand is perfect. To begin the Trio of Foiled Tags, select a positive pattern toner paper, cut the Deco Foil Transfer Sheet to size, layer colored side up on top, place inside a folded piece of plain paper, and then run through the heated laminator. Once cool, peel the foil from the paper revealing the magic! The dry toner has bonded the colored foil to the paper.

To create a negative pattern, start with a solid piece of toner paper and the remaining Deco Foil Transfer Sheet. Layer foil on top of toner paper, load in the paper carrier, and run through the heated laminator. Once cool, peel back the Deco Foil to reveal the magic! When you use the positive and the negative foil patterns on the toner sheets, you can see in the last photo, it creates zero foil waste.

HOW TO FOIL A TAG WITH DECO FOIL LIQUID ADHESIVE

Use Therm-O-Web Deco Foil Liquid Adhesive to carefully draw a design or image onto the second tag, and set aside to dry. This adhesive goes on white and dries clear, but remains tacky. Place Deco Foil Transfer Sheet onto the dry, but tacky design and rub with your finger to transfer the foil onto the glue. Peel the Deco Foil sheet back to reveal the dimensional foiled design. And, if you missed a spot, just reapply with a fresh section of foil.

HOW TO FOIL A TAG WITH PERMANENT TAPE RUNNER XL

Simple, stripes, plaids and polka dots are some of my favorite patterns. Apply Therm-O-Web Permanent Tape Runner XL in a diagonal stripe pattern across the third tag. Place Deco Foil Transfer Sheet on top of the adhesive and burnish gently with a bone folder until you see the foil transfer. Peel back the foil sheet to reveal the rainbow metallic stripes. FUN!

HOW TO FINISH FOILED TAGS

Using the negative toner paper, cut out a section of the pattern and attach to the end of the tag with the Permanent Adhesive Runner XL. Hand letter “hello” on the first tag with Tombow Dual Brush Pen N15 Black using the brush tip. Print the sentiment “FOR YOU!” in between the foil stripes on the second tag with the bullet tip of the Dual Brush Pen. Add a larger “FOR you” at the top of the tag. Hand write “All things grow with LOVE” around the edge of the third tag with the bullet tip of the Dual Brush Pen, and then add “Love” at the top with the brush tip. To finish each of the Trio of Foiled Tags, measure and cut four 12″ length of Hemptique Baker's Twine, thread through the hole and secure by inserting the ends through the loop.
