Here's how to create Buffalo Plaid Shamrock Door Decor
STEP ONE
To begin the Buffalo Plaid Dollar Tree Shamrock, gather all supplies. Basecoat the wooden shamrock plaque with Titanium White acrylic craft paint. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.

STEP TWO
Starting in the middle, apply 3M Scotch Blue Painter’s Tape vertically through the center of the shamrock plaque. Use a small piece of painter’s tape as a spacer and continue applying vertical stripes of painter’s tape out to the right and left edges. Burnish the edges of the tape with a fingernail or bone folder. NOTE: Splurge on the name-brand painter's tape like 3M Scotch Blue brand to create crisp edges.
Apply a light coat of Titanium White acrylic craft paint, over the painter's tape, and let dry. This will seal the edges, so the green paint won’t bleed underneath.

STEP THREE
Apply a light coat of Foliage Green acrylic craft paint using a dry paintbrush. DO NOT let the paint dry. When working with painter's tape, I prefer a lighter coat of paint.
While the paint is still wet, remove 3M Scotch Blue Painter’s Tape, and set these strips of tape aside to use later. Let the paint dry completely. Don’t worry if your brush strokes show because it adds to the buffalo check effect.

STEP FOUR
Starting in the middle, apply 3M Scotch Blue Painter’s Tape horizontally through the center of the shamrock plaque. Use a small piece of painter’s tape as a spacer and continue applying horizontal stripes of painter’s tape out to the top and bottom edges. Burnish the edges of the tape with a fingernail or bone folder.
Apply a light coat of Titanium White acrylic craft paint, over the painter's tape, and let dry. Apply a light coat of Festive Green acrylic craft paint using a dry paintbrush. Let the paint dry completely.

STEP FIVE
Apply the vertical strips of the painter's tape back onto the shamrock, starting in the middle, and using the small piece of tape as a spacer.
With a flat paintbrush, apply Forest Green acrylic craft paint to each square. Buffalo plaid can be achieved with a white or ivory base and then a light, medium, and dark shade of paint in the same color family.

STEP SIX
While the paint is still wet, remove the painter's tape to reveal the buffalo check pattern. Touch up any uneven sections of the buffalo plaid with a small paintbrush and one of the three green paints.
Measure and cut a 20” length of natural jute twine. Flip over the plaque, and attach the ends of the twine to the right and left sides of the shamrock with a glue gun and glue sticks. You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.

STEP SEVEN
Paint the wooden LUCK shape with Antique Gold acrylic craft paint. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. Apply a thick layer of gold glitter glue and spread out with a paintbrush, set aside to dry.

STEP EIGHT
Measure scraps of ribbon, lace, and trims that are 6” long. Stack in an “X” pattern on top of a 12” length of natural jute twine. Tie the jute twine tightly in the center of the ribbons, securing with a knot. Fluff ribbons, and then trim any excess ribbons with scissors. This is a great way to use up bits and pieces of ribbons and trims.
Using a glue gun and glue sticks, attach the ribbon bundle to the center of the wooden shamrock plaque, and then add the gold LUCK shape to the center of the ribbon bundle.
