Here's what you need to make a Lace and Embroidery Hoop Snowman:

.

Here's how to create a Snowman from Embroidery Hoops:

STEP ONE

To begin the Upcycled DIY Snowman from Embroidery Hoops, gather all supplies. Loosen the metal screw at the top of each embroidery hoop and separate the inside and outside rings. Fit the lace doilies loosely into the embroidery hoops. Pull gently from the back to ensure the lace is taught and then tighten the screw at the top of the hoop.

STEP TWO

Trim the excess lace doily from the back of the embroidery hoop with scissors. Apply a thin line of E6000 Fabri-Fuse Liquid Fabric Glue to the cut edge of the lace to secure it to the hoop. This will prevent the lace from popping out of the hoop. Set aside to dry. TIP: This craft was made with cotton lace doilies from Amazon, but any type of lace would work. A section of lace yardage, a vintage lace tablecloth, or even a piece of lace clothing can be substituted.

STEP THREE

Attach embroidery hoops together at the screws with a glue gun and glue sticks. To further secure, wrap the intersection with floral wire or a chenille stem.

STEP FOUR

To create the snowman’s face, attach two small black buttons for the eyes, and three small orange buttons from largest to smallest for the carrot nose. Adhere three medium black buttons on the snowman’s body with a glue gun and glue sticks. These are vintage buttons from my stash, but new buttons would work as well.

STEP FIVE

To further secure the snowman's neck, wrap the intersection with additional wire or twine. Measure and cut two rectangular pieces of Sandstone Kunin Classic Felt that are 3/4” by 6”. Roll the felt and secure the ends with glue. Attach the felt rolls to either side of the screws at the neck of the snowman with a glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP SIX

Wrap the snowman’s neck in a black and white gingham ribbon scarf. To finish, secure the ribbon with a few small dots of glue. Trim any long ends of the ribbon scarf with scissors and cut a fishtail in the ends for a finished look and to prevent fraying.

  • Great project for even beginners like me. Question: Does this actually stay upright or is there a small “”stand” for it?

    Reply
    • It does not stand upright by itself, Vicki. I actually use it as a wall decoration

  • I wonder if it would work to leave the edges on to make a girl snow person?
