Here's what you need to make a Rainbow Painters Palette:

• Sculpey Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat
• Liquid Sculpey® Pearl – 2 oz. bottle
• Sculpey® Bake Shop Bendy Multi-Pack 10 piece
• Sculpey® Satin Glaze – 1 oz. bottle
• Stamp Pad Pigment Reinkers – Rainbow Colors
• Mini Measure Cups – Dollar Tree
• Wooden Craft Sticks – Dollar Tree
• Toothpicks – Dollar Tree
• Baking Sheet – Dollar Tree
• Oven (mine is electric)
• Key Ring Kit with a Split Ring, Chain, and Jump Ring
• Craft Knife
• Needle-Nose Pliers
• Paintbrush

Here's how to create Rainbow Colors with Liquid Sculpey:

STEP ONE

To begin the Polymer Clay Painters Palette, gather all supplies. Read instructions on the Liquid Sculpey® Pearl and Sculpey Bake Shop Bendy packaging before proceeding. Pre-heat oven to 275 degrees. Place seven mini-measure cups on the work surface, twist the Liquid Sculpey Pearl spout open, and add a small amount to each cup. I counted to six while squeezing.

STEP TWO

Using stamp pad reinkers in rainbow colors, squeeze three to four drops of ink into each cup of Liquid Sculpey Pearl. Mix colors thoroughly with a wooden craft stick. Liquid Sculpey can be colored with any permanent dye, like alcohol ink, stamp pad reinkers, acrylic paint, chalk pastels, or even liquid food coloring. Test out each method prior to creating your project. I used stamp pad reinkers because I had them on hand.

STEP THREE

Place the Oven-Safe Work Mat on a baking sheet, and roll out a small amount of Sculpey Bake Shop Bendy white clay with the clay roller included in the pack. For this keyring project, the Sculpey Bake Shop Bendy is perfect because it bakes up flexible! Roll clay to about 1/8″ thick and cut out a painters palette shape including a hole with a craft knife or the clay knife included in the pack. Bake on the Oven-Safe Work Mat according to the Sculpey Bake Shop Bendy package directions, and let cool.

STEP FOUR

Pick up some of the tinted Liquid Sculpey with the toothpick, place a drop of color on the palette, and then drag the toothpick downward to create a teardrop shape. Repeat this technique a second time and connect the teardrops at the base, creating a heart. Make Liquid Sculpey hearts on the painters palette in rainbow order. I love the free-form look of the colored hearts. Bake on the Oven-Safe Work Mat according to the Liquid Sculpey package directions, and let cool.

STEP FIVE

Since this Rainbow Painters Palette will be used as a Keyring, I like to topcoat with Sculpey Satin Glaze for added durability. Just paint on several thin coats of Satin Glaze, letting dry completely between coats. Let cure for 24 hours, no need to bake. Open the jump ring from a keyring kit with needle-nose pliers, thread through the hole at the top of the painters palette and close the jump ring. DONE!

Liquid Sculpey Rainbow Painters Palette Keyring

I spent the afternoon experimenting with Liquid Sculpey and now I am seriously hooked. It is a quick and easy craft medium that has a TON of creative possibilities and applications. My Rainbow Painters Palette Keyring takes only 30 minutes to make from start to finish.

Mixing the rainbow colors of Liquid Sculpey Pearl was super easy and I have extra to make a few more projects, so check back with me for more. The Liquid Sculpey stays liquid until baked, so just store in an air-tight container. I also tinted the Liquid Sculpey with alcohol inks, but they were runnier than with the stamp pad reinkers. The shimmer and sparkle of the pearl shows through, giving this keyring a totally upscale look.
