How to Make a No-Sew Rainbow Pencil Case:
STEP ONE
To begin the Rainbow Felt Pencil Pouch, gather all supplies. I found this 6″ by 9″ canvas zipper pouch at Hobby Lobby for $1.49, and it is perfect to hold a small notepad and some crayons for the kiddos. Download and print the Rainbow Pencil Pouch Patterns below ⇓ on plain paper.
STEP TWO
Cut out all patterns with scissors. Attach the crayon pattern with straight pins and cut out one crayon in the following colors of Kunin Classic Felt: Red, Orange, Gold, Apple Green, Peacock Blue, and Bright Lilac.
If crafting with the kiddos, trace the patterns onto the felt with a permanent marker like the MONO Twin. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip. Cut out all patterns with scissors.
STEP THREE
Attach the wavy line pattern to Kunin Classic Black Felt and cut it out twice with scissors. Line up the wavy lines from the first cut with the second pattern, using the wavy lines that have already been cut as a starting point.
It's okay if these cuts are not perfect because they will give the pouch character. If cutting out the wavy lines is too complex or time-consuming, you can use a black rick rack instead.
STEP FOUR
Insert a piece of scrap paper or cardboard into the zipper pouch, which will prevent any glue from seeping through the canvas and gluing the pouch together. Dry fit the rainbow crayons to the front of the zipper pouch, and trim any excess felt.
Using E6000 Fabri-Fuse, attach each of the crayons to the pouch in rainbow order. E6000 Fabri-fuse liquid fabric glue is extremely flexible, has stretch, won’t create bumps or bulges, and allows the felt to remain pliable — even after washing.
STEP FIVE
Attach the first wavy line to the crayons with E6000 Fabri-Fuse, taping gently to make sure that you get good adhesion between the layers of felt. Customize the colors of felt for a personalized pencil pouch.
Attach the second wavy line to the crayons with E6000 Fabri-Fuse, taping gently to make sure that you get good adhesion between the layers of felt. Set aside to allow the glue to dry, and then trim excess black felt from the edges of the zipper pouch.
STEP SIX
Using the MONO Twin permanent marker, trace hearts onto Kunin Classic Felt Candy Pink, Pumpkin Spice, Yellow, Neon Green, Lagoon, and Bright Lilac. Cut out hearts with scissors, making sure to cut inside the traced lines for a clean, finished project. Get creative with this step by adding the kiddos names, initials, names of the colors, or other shapes like stars. To finish the Rainbow Felt Pencil Pouch, attach the hearts to the crayons with E6000 Fabri-Fuse, then set aside to dry.
