How to create Cactus with Polymer Clay:
STEP ONE
To begin the DIY Polymer Clay Cactus, gather all supplies. Open the package of Sculpey® Soufflé™ Citron, break off half of the clay, and condition it by kneading it in your hands until pliable. Roll out the clay on the Sculpey® Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat with the roller from the Sculpey® Tools™ Essential Tool Kit until it is approximately 1/8″ thick. Using the needle tool, score the shape of the cactus into the clay, then use a knife to cut out the cactus. Pull the excess clay away and set it aside to use later.

STEP TWO
Repeat the above steps with Sculpey® Soufflé™ Jade from the Multipack 12 piece. Score and then cut out a large oval and two small ovals. Attach the small ovals to the right and left sides of the large oval. Secure by pushing firmly with a fingertip. Set the scraps aside to use in the next step. I love the bold and vibrant colors of the Sculpey® Soufflé™ polymer clay.

STEP THREE
I hate wasting craft supplies, how about you? Break apart the scraps of Citron and Jade, then knead them together to create a fun swirled effect. Roll out the swirled clay with the roller to reveal a fun tie-dye-inspired pattern. This effect will turn out differently each time.

STEP FOUR
Score and cut out a round shape to become a barrel cactus. Condition a small amount of Sculpey® Soufflé™ Cabernet shape a small rectangle and cut fringe along the long edge. Roll the Cabernet clay into a cylinder, attach it to the top of the Citron cactus, and then fan out the fringe to resemble a cactus flower. Condition a small amount of Sedona clay, roll it into a skinny snake, and then spiral it into a cinnamon bun shape. Repeat with a second flower and attach them to the Jade Cactus.

STEP FIVE
Add texture with the Sculpey® Tools™ Essential Tool Kit to resemble the rough surfaces of the different cactus. Carefully lift up the Sculpey® Tools™ Oven-Safe Work Mat and place it on a baking sheet. Place in a pre-heated 275° oven and bake according to the package directions for the thickness of the clay. Remove from oven and let cool completely on the baking sheet.

STEP SIX
Fill small terra cotta flowerpots with small rocks and then “plant” the cactus. You could also purchase a larger terra cotta saucer and plant all your cactus together. The possibilities are endless!

Quick and Easy Polymer Clay Cactus for Home Decor
Available in 20+ colors, Sculpey® Soufflé™ has three new colors – Citron, Cabernet, and Sedona, which I used in my DIY Polymer Clay Cactus project today. Soufflé is strong and holds detail making it the perfect choice for all types of techniques. Super flexible, it can be cut and sewn after baking, which makes it perfect for embellishing bags, making tags, enhancing paper crafting, and more. Stays soft until baked, so it does not air dry. Remains soft until it is baked in your oven. Extra clay can be stored and reused, it won't dry out! Great for a variety of projects such as jewelry, DIY home décor, mixed media, and more. Sculpey® Soufflé™ is safe and non-toxic, so it is perfect for crafting with the kiddos!
