The Easiest Recycled Penny Gift Box a 30 Minute DIY
I hate just putting gift cards in greeting cards, don't you? Personal and even quirky containers are always more interesting, especially for the receiver. Surprising my Niece on her recent birthday with a Recycled Penny Gift Box for her Starbucks gift card was super fun and easy. And don't we all have PLENTY of pennies to go around?

Recycle Pennies on a Box for an Unexpected Gift

This week I am co-hosting Creative Crafts – Recycled Edition with my crafty friends Laura from Me and My Inklings and Lindsay from Arsty Fartsy Mama. Featuring recycled craft projects each day this week from some of the most talented designers we know. Here's what you will need to create the Easiest Recycled Penny Gift Box:
- Paper Mache Gift Box – 4″ by 4″ Square
- DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Worn Penny
- MONO Multi Liquid Glue from Tombow USA
- Recycled Pennies – get out those jars of loose change!
- Paintbrush – 1/4″ Flat

Here’s how to make a Gift Box with Recycled Pennies:
STEP ONE
To start the easiest recycled penny gift box, dry-fit the pennies on the lid and sides of the gift box to make sure that they will fit properly. I was lucky and had a 4″ by 4″ box in my craft stash that perfectly fits 25 pennies on the lid.

STEP TWO
Basecoat the paper mache box with DecoArt Dazzling Metallics Worn Penny and then let dry. Apply a second coat, if necessary.

STEP THREE
Starting with the top, apply Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue spacing the pennies evenly as you fill in the lid of the box. Let each glued surface dry completely before you move on to the next side. TIP: This is the point where you can have multiple gift boxes being glued at the same time.

STEP FOUR
Finish the easiest recycled penny gift box by attaching the pennies to the sides, letting each side dry before moving on to the next side. MONO Multi Liquid Glue retains some of its elasticity as it drys so the pennies will not randomly pop off the finished gift box. I tried several types of glue before I figured this out!
