Dollar Tree Succulent Planter
STEP ONE
Gather all materials. These carvable foam pumpkins from Dollar Tree might not be pretty with the bright neon orange color, but they are hollow and very versatile for a variety of DIY craft projects.
Carve a 2.5” hole in the top center of the foam pumpkin with a craft knife. The fun part about the Dollar Tree foam pumpkins is that they are hollow inside.
STEP TWO
Basecoat the pumpkin with Spiced Pumpkin acrylic craft paint. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
With a dry paintbrush, apply Burnt Orange acrylic craft paint in the valleys of the pumpkin. This step will give the pumpkin a more realistic appearance.
STEP THREE
Insert the 2.4” foam ball in the opening. Depending on how snug the fit is, secure it with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Attach a layer of moss over top of the foam ball, securing it with a glue gun and glue sticks. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies that won’t blow your budget!
STEP FOUR
Starting with the largest faux cactus, create a hole at the top of the foam ball with a sharpened pencil. Secure the cactus stems in place with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP FIVE
Using wire cutters, separate some of the long cactus pieces, and insert them individually in the foam ball base. Make sure that there are some high, some medium, and some low cactus.
STEP SIX
Detach the smaller pieces from a cactus cluster with wire cutters. Fill in all of the smaller areas with these little succulents, securing them in place with a glue gun and glue sticks.
