Here's what you need to make Yarn Pom Pom Love Bugs:
- Yarn, Turqua – Red Heart (yes, that's the color name, I checked twice!)
- Pom Pom Maker – Red Heart
- Kunin Classics Felt, Red (9” by 12” Craft Cuts)
- MONOTWIN Permanent Marker from Tombow
- Tombow Dual Brush Pens – 856, 452, N15
- Wiggle Eyes – Dollar Tree
- Chenille Stems, Metallic Red and Silver – Dollar Tree
- Mini Pom Poms – Metallic Red and White – Dollar Tree
- Heart Template – Fiskars
- Cardstock, White
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks (or Liquid Craft Glue)
- Scissors – I love my Fiskars!
- Ruler
Here's how to create Thing 1 and Thing 2 Inspired Love Bugs:
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Assemble Pom Pom Maker according to directions on the package and make 3” pom poms with turquoise yarn which is the perfect color match. NOTE: I love, love, love this pom pom maker because you can make 2-8 pom poms in just a few minutes!
Tie off tightly and cut pom poms apart. Use scissors to trim the ends and shape the pom poms into spheres.
STEP TWO
Trace two 3” heart shapes onto Red Kunin Classics Felt with the MONOTWIN Permanent Marker for each love bug. Cut out each heart with scissors, cutting inside the traced line for a clean, finished project. Layer two hearts together and secure with a glue gun and glue sticks to create the critter's feet.
STEP THREE
Cut chenille stems in half and then bend each section in half. Attach a mini pom pom to the cut end of the chenille stem with a glue gun and glue sticks to create the love bug antenna.
STEP FOUR
To assemble each critter, glue the turquoise yarn pom pom to the red felt heart feet, and then attach two wiggle eyes and the antenna. Use the photo as a guide.
STEP FIVE
Measure and cut white cardstock into 3/4″ by 4 1/2″ rectangles. Hand letter “Why fit in when you were born to STAND OUT” with the bullet tip of Dual Brush Pens 856 and 452, which are the perfect color match. Cut a triangular notch from the right end of the flag. Outline the flag with Dual Brush Pen N15 in a loose and sketchy style. To finish, attach the quote flag to the felt heart love bug feet with a dot of glue from a glue gun.
