Fall is Birthday Season in my family, so I have created a Happy Birthday Balloon Banner out of brightly colored Eco-fi® Classicfelt™ Balloons, which makes this banner re-useable, so it's definitely a win-win! Reverse cutting the letters gives this traditional banner a modern look. Add some ribbon and twine with a bit of glue and you are done!
I am so very excited about this week because this Happy Birthday Balloon Banner is a part of Craft Lightning Party Crafts with our lovely hosts, Angie from the Country Chic Cottage and Carolina from 30 Minute Crafts PLUS special party craft guest host Cori George from Hey, Let's Make Stuff. What is Craft Lightning? It’s craft projects that you can make in under 15 minutes! SCORE!

Here's what you will need to create a Birthday Banner:
- Kunin Eco-fi®Classicfelt™ 9” x 12” Craft Cuts (one of each) Red; Candy Pink; Fuchsia; Coral Red; Orange; Bright Yellow; Neon Green; Pirate Green; Lagoon; Neon Blue; Brilliant Blue; Violet Sky and Orchid
- Beacon Adhesives Felt Glue (I love this glue for felt!)
- Balloon Pattern – download below
- White Paper Twine (thirteen 12” lengths)
- Permanent Marker
- White 1” Cotton Webbing (twelve 1” lengths)
- Scissors (Fiskars are my all-time favorite!)
- Scrap Paper
- 9” x 12” Chipboard
- Pencil (Tombow makes superior drawing pencils)
Here’s how to make a Happy Birthday Banner:
STEP ONE
Download and print HAPPY BIRTHDAY BALLOON PATTERN. Cut out, trace onto chipboard and then cut out again.
STEP TWO
Trace one Balloon on to each color of Kunin Eco-fi®Classicfelt™ with a permanent marker and cut out with scissors. TIP: Cut out to the INSIDE of your traced lines, so you have a clean finish project.
STEP THREE
To figure out how to draw the letters HAPPY BIRTHDAY backward, first drew them correctly on a scrap of paper. Hold that paper up backward on a window (or light pad) and trace over the letters with a permanent marker. I then freehand drew the letters onto the Balloons, but you can create templates and trace the letters on to the Balloons.
STEP FOUR
Cut out each letter with scissors. TIP: If you are careful cutting, you will have all of the letters to spell HAPPY BIRTHDAY for another project!
STEP FIVE
Flip Balloons over, so that the sides are touching and attach each Balloon with a 1” piece of cotton webbing, using Beacon Felt Glue, let dry. Make sure to follow your backward diagram when gluing the Balloons together, so they end up in the correct order when ready to hang. TIP: I created two banners HAPPY and then BIRTHDAY, separately, so they would be easier to hang.
STEP SIX
Cut thirteen lengths of white paper twine and attach to the back of each Balloon at the base with Beacon Felt Glue, let dry.
Here is a detail of the finished letter “t” Happy Birthday Balloon Banner. I used a mix of upper case and lower case letters to create a fun, quirky and modern look!
The HAPPY BIRTHDAY Balloon banner can be customized to include the name of the Birthday Boy or Girl, as well as a color scheme to match your party’s theme! Quick and easy, this banner went together in just about 15 minutes (not including drying time).
