Here’s how to create custom-lettered New Year's Eve Hats:
STEP ONE
To begin the Hand-Lettered Party Hats, print out the FREE PRINTABLE PARTY HATS FOR NEW YEARS EVE template at the bottom of this post, cut it out, trace it onto the chipboard (for durability), and cut it out again. Trace the template onto cardstock with MONO Drawing Pencils.
Cut out the party hats with scissors and, then create the slot with a craft knife on a self-healing mat with adult supervision. I did this in advance, so everyone could get straight to the decorating part!
STEP TWO
Now it is time to decorate and have fun!! Use Tombow Dual Brush Pen 676 to create a hand-lettered Happy New Year message all over the background. Then use 673 to add graphic lines and chevrons. Trim with silver tinsel around the base using MONO Multi Liquid Glue from Tombow. The MONO Multi will be set up in about 15-20 minutes.
STEP THREE
Next is a simple checkerboard pattern featuring Dual Brush Pens 133 and 452 (one of MY favorite combos). Outline then add a hand-lettered message with Dual Brush Pen N25. Randomly write HAPPY, NEW, and YEAR all over with Fudenosuke Brush Pen Twin Tip.
Attach various sizes of white pom poms around the base of the party hat with Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue. Use the supplies you have on hand for this fun and funky party hat craft.
STEP FOUR
Finally, I have a party hat colored with Dual Brush Pen 451. Add the THIS IS MY YEAR message quote plus stars in Dual Brush Pens 443 and 535 for a whimsical touch! Attach blue ball fringe trim to the edge of the party hat and sequins all over with MONO Multi Liquid Glue.
STEP FIVE
Run a line of Tombow Xtreme Permanent Adhesive down the tab of each party hat, insert the tab in the slot, and secure. The Xtreme Adhesive runner is five times stronger than traditional adhesive runners, I use it ALL THE TIME! Just remember, roll to apply and swipe the tip at a 90-degree angle to release the adhesive.
STEP SIX
Attach ribbon, twine, yarn, or elastic with a stapler, in an “X” pattern to the right and left sides of the base of each party hat. Get creative with the designs and patterns. You don't have to have perfect hand lettering to have FUN with this craft project.
