Hoop & Fabric Pumpkin Craft
STEP ONE
To begin, gather all supplies. Paint the outside and top edge of the outside ring of the three embroidery hoops with Light Cinnamon acrylic craft paint. Set aside to dry. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP TWO
Fit the plaid fabrics loosely into the embroidery hoops. Fabric fat quarters are the perfect way to get a variety of plaids without spending a lot of money.
Pull the fabric gently from the back to ensure the fabric is taught and then tighten the screw at the top of the hoop.
Trim the excess plaid fabric from the back of each embroidery hoop with scissors. Apply a thin line of Fabri-Fuse Fabric Glue from E6000 to the cut edge of the fabric to secure it. Set aside to dry. E6000 Fabri-fuse liquid fabric glue is extremely flexible, has stretch, won’t create bumps or bulges, and allows the felt to remain pliable — even after washing.
STEP THREE
Cut large, medium, and small rectangles of Kelly Green and Olive Green Kunin Felt, then cut out a football or leaf shape with scissors. Apply a small amount of hot glue to each leaf tip, and fold in half to create dimension. Kunin Classic Felt comes in 9″ by 12″ Craft Cuts that make all your DIY projects quick and easy since it won't fray when cut.
STEP FOUR
Cut long, skinny rectangles of dark brown felt for the pumpkin stems. Fold the felt in half, and thread through the screw at the top of the hoop. Open the loop, insert the cut ends into the loop, and pull tight to create the pumpkin stems. Trim any excess with scissors.
STEP FIVE
Cut several lengths of natural jute twine and tie in a knot around the stem of the hoop pumpkins. Trim any excess with scissors. To finish, attach felt leaves to the top of each hoop pumpkin with a glue gun and glue sticks. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies that won’t blow your budget!
