I love wandering the aisles of dollar stores and craft stores to find ordinary items that I can upcycle and reimagine into crafty treasures. Such was a recent find of a wooden pumpkin garland from the Target Dollar Spot. As a lover of all things Fall and Funny, I created an Easy DIY Pumpkin Garland with a punny message, perfect for my friend, Rhonda. Can you hear the exclamation right now? I know I can!

Here's how to create a Pumpkin Garland with a Funny Message:
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. My garland was already a rustic orange, but you could use an unfinished wood pumpkin garland as well. Select a combination of embroidered letters to spell out your message. The large varsity-style letters are packaged individually, but the smaller letters come on a sheet. Remove smaller ones from the letter sheet. A fun hack for creating a custom project is purchasing white embroidered, chipboard, or even sticker letters and then add your perfectly matching color.
STEP TWO
Arrange all the embroidered letters on several layers of paper towel and then gently mist with a spray stain or dye. Distress Spray Stain from Ranger Ink is perfect for coloring a variety of surfaces, even wood. The color Peeled Paint is a nice mossy green once dry. I love the light and dark sections created by the embroidery. You could mix colors as well!
STEP THREE
Once dry, flip the four small embroidered letters over on your work surface and apply a bead of Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue with the fine tip applicator. Attach the O and H to the first pumpkin. Attach the M and Y to the second pumpkin. Set aside to allow the glue to dry.
STEP FOUR
Remove backing paper from each of the large varsity letters to expose the adhesive. Position and then attach one letter to each of the remaining five pumpkins. Don't worry about lining all of the letters up perfectly, instead, offset them intentionally to create a whimsical feel.
STEP FIVE
Measure and cut a variety of ribbon into six-inch lengths, and then tie in between the pumpkins on the garland. Secure a silk leaf between each wooden pumpkin with a six-inch length of jute twine.
