Even though Teacher Appreciation looks different this year, I feel that it is actually extra important for everyone to take the time to say a big THANK YOU! My Easy Clay Pot Apple for Teacher craft is the perfect container to hold some sweets and a gift card. Teachers give so much of themselves to our children and I think now we realize that more than ever. A handmade gift that you can make with your kiddos will hold a special place in your Teachers’ hearts for years to come.

Here’s what you will need to make Clay Pot Apples:
- Clay (terra cotta) Pots and Saucers – I used 6″ pots and 4″ saucers. You can make them any size you want, but be sure the saucer fits on top of the pot like a lid.
- Wooden Finial or Spool
- Kunin Classics™ Felt 9” x 12” Craft Cuts – Olive Green
- Americana Acrylics from DecoArt – Country Red, Foliage Green, Dark Chocolate
- Tombow Dual Brush Pen – Black
- Tombow MONO Multi Liquid Glue
- Dynasty Paint Brush – one-half-inch flat wash
- Ribbon – assorted colors of green
- Scissors – I LOVE my Fiskars!
Here’s how to create a Teacher Appreciation Gift with the Kiddos:
To begin the Easy Clay Pot Apple, basecoat the clay pots and saucers with Country Red paint. Apply a second coat, if necessary, and then set aside to dry. The paint will soak into the clay, so you will need more paint than you normally would.
Cut leaf shapes from Olive Green Felt and then accent with a pattern in Foliage Green paint. Polka dots and plaid are easy patterns to duplicate. Basecoat the wooden finial and spool with Dark Chocolate acrylic paint. Apply a second coat, if necessary, and set aside to dry. If you don’t have felt you could use craft foam or cardstock. Use a stick from the yard instead of the wooden finial or spool.
Attach the wooden stem and leaf to the top center of the clay saucer with MONO Multi Liquid Glue. You can also use a glue gun and glue sticks if that’s what you have on hand. Allow about a half an hour for the glue to set up, then tie assorted green ribbons to the stem. To finish the Easy Clay Pot Apple, hand letter the Teachers’ names on the outside of the clay pots with the Dual Brush Pen. For a fun touch, let the kiddos print the Teachers’ names OR paint a little worm with Foliage Green acrylic paint on the clay pot.
Fill with tissue paper or paper shred, candy, and a gift card. Whatever your kiddos Teachers love, the possibilities are endless! I think this year a gift card to the grocery store or Amazon would be the most thoughtful and something they can really use.
The important thing to remember during this unusual time is that it’s the thought that counts. Taking time to create something (anything) handmade like this Easy Clay Pot Apple with your kiddos is a win, win, win. A win for you spending time with your kiddos, a win for your kiddos learning an important lesson to give back and a win for the Teacher to know that even though we are socially distant we don’t have to be emotionally distant.
Thanks for stopping by!
