Halloween Witch Gnome Craft
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Cut approximately 30 individual strings from the cotton mop head with scissors. Get them damp under running water, squeeze the excess water out and place in a gallon zipper bag.
Squeeze Warm Sunset acrylic craft paint into the bag, then zip it closed.
Squish the paint into the cotton mop strings until they are all coated. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
Turn out the orange mop strings onto aluminum foil, and set aside to dry. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies which won’t blow your budget!
STEP TWO
To create the witch’s hat, create an upside-down “V” with two jumbo craft sticks on your work surface, and secure it with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Add additional jumbo craft sticks along the length of the hat and attach them with a glue gun and glue sticks. Trim the long ends with scissors.
Flip the hat over and glue one jumbo craft stick to the hat base to create the brim. TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP THREE
Basecoat the entire witch’s hat with Lamp Black acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
Basecoat the wooden bead with Hauser Light Green acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.
STEP FOUR
Flip the witch hat over and attach 15 cotton mop head strings along the base of the bottom wooden craft stick with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Glue 15 additional painted strings from the cotton mop head on a second layer.
STEP FIVE
Glue the witch's nose wooden ball to the top center of the witch’s beard, just under the hat brim.
STEP SIX
Attach the purple gingham ribbon around the witch’s hat as the hat band with a glue gun and glue sticks. If using a narrow ribbon, just wrap it around twice.
STEP SEVEN
Download, print, and cut out the WITCH GNOME PATTERN from the bottom of this post. Trace onto yellow craft foam with a pencil and then cut out with scissors.
Attach the buckle to the center of the purple gingham ribbon with a glue gun and glue sticks. Then cut the spider from a jeweled ring and glue it to the witch's hat.
