STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Remove the foam dice from the packaging. Basecoat the foam dice with Milk Chocolate acrylic craft paint. Let the paint dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. This project took two coats to cover the dots on the dice.
STEP TWO
Basecoat the front, back, and sides of jumbo craft sticks with acrylic craft paint as follows: Deep Burgundy (2), Deep Ochre (1), Canyon Orange (1), Burnt Orange (1), and Dark Chocolate (1). Let paint dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
Measure and cut each jumbo craft stick in half with scissors. These jumbo craft sticks are 6″ long, so when cut in half you will have two pieces that are 3″ each.
Add feather markings to each half of the painted craft sticks using the MONO Twin permanent black marker. Draw a line down the center, then add diagonal lines drawn to the center line. Use the photo below for reference. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
STEP THREE
Lay out the craft sticks halves with the Deep Burgundy in the center and on the ends. Then dry fit the rest of the feathers in between. Refer to the photo for placement. Attach the cut end of the craft sticks to the foam dice base with a glue gun and glue sticks. You could also use liquid craft glue, but you would have to wait for it to dry.
STEP FOUR
Download, print, and cut out the TURKEY PATTERNS from the bottom of this post. Trace the turkey beak onto Gold Kunin Felt, and the turkey waddle onto Burgundy Kunin Felt with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. Cut out the beak and waddle with scissors.
Add a face to the turkey by attaching two wiggle eyes with a glue gun and glue sticks. Glue the felt waddle and beak directly under the wiggle eyes.
STEP FIVE
Basecoat one 6” wooden dowel and two wooden stars with Mustard Seed acrylic craft paint. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. Then cut the wooden dowel in half with scissors. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies that won’t blow your budget!
Attach the flat end of each dowel half to the center of each star with E6000 Adhesive. Let the glue set according to package directions. Since the turkey legs will be the base, you will need a stronger adhesive than hot glue. Since I don't use the E6000 Craft Adhesive all the time, I love these mini tubes!
STEP SIX
Push the pencil point into the bottom of the foam dice twice. The pencil point will easily puncture the dense foam of the dice to create piolet holes.
Add a small amount of glue to the end of the wooden dowel and insert it into the hole created with the pencil. Repeat for the second leg. Stand the turkey up and adjust the legs before the glue dries.
STEP SEVEN
Trace the turkey wing pattern onto Cocoa Kunin Felt twice with the MONO Twin marker. Cut out the turkey wings with scissors. You could also use craft foam or colored cardstock for this project. Kunin Classic Felt comes in 9″ by 12″ Craft Cuts that make all your DIY projects quick and easy since it won't fray when cut.
To finish, attach a wing to the right-hand and left-hand sides of the turkey using a glue gun and glue sticks.
