Clay Pot Scarecrow Kids Craft
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Remove the paper tag from the clay pot. Basecoat the base of the clay pot with Buttermilk acrylic craft paint. Let the paint dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
Basecoat the rim of the clay pot with Honey Brown acrylic craft paint. Let the paint dry. Using a detail paintbrush, add a horizontal stripe with Canyon Orange acrylic craft paint, then add Canyon Orange vertical stripes. Let the paint dry. Add horizontal stripes with Hauser Medium Green acrylic craft paint, then add Hauser Medium Green vertical stripes. Let the paint dry.
STEP TWO
Cut a six-inch section of raffia from the bundle and tie it in the center with a piece of natural jute twine. Secure the twine with a knot and trim the ends short with scissors. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies which won’t blow your budget!
Attach the raffia bundle to the top of the clay pot with a glue gun and glue sticks. Add additional glue to the sides of the clay pot so the scarecrow’s hair lays flat. Trim any long ends of raffia with scissors.
STEP THREE
Attach a mini burlap hat on top of the raffia with a glue gun and glue sticks. You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP FOUR
Download, print, and cut out the SCARECROW PATTERNS from the bottom of this post. Trace the nose pattern onto Pumpkin Spice Kunin Classic Felt with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. Cut out the nose with scissors. You could also use craft foam or colored cardstock instead of felt. Kunin Classic Felt comes in 9″ by 12″ Craft Cuts that make all your DIY projects quick and easy since it won't fray when cut.
STEP FIVE
Add a face to the scarecrow by attaching two wiggle eyes with a glue gun and glue sticks. Glue the felt nose directly under the wiggle eyes. Add cheeks by dipping a new pencil eraser in Bubblegum Pink acrylic craft paint and dotting on either side of the face.
Once the cheeks are dry, draw a smiling mouth from cheek to cheek with the MONO Twin permanent black marker, then add random stitches. Refer to the pattern sheet for placement. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
