Dollar Tree Candy Apple Craft
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Using scissors, carefully cut the leaf and stem from the apples. Have an adult help younger kids with this step.
STEP TWO
Basecoat the wooden apple cutouts with Country Red and Foliage Green acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP THREE
Place a quarter-side dollop of Honey Brown acrylic craft paint and UltraBond liquid craft glue on a paper plate. Using an old paintbrush, mix the paint and glue together. Use a heavier-bodied liquid craft glue like iCraft from Therm-O-Web. A thinner glue such as Elmer’s would not provide the dimension.
Apply a heavy layer of the paint and glue mixture to the bottom half of each apple with an old paintbrush. Continue to apply a thick coat of the paint and glue mixture to the remaining apples. Swirl the edges to resemble an apple being dipped into melted caramel. Set aside to dry. Approximately 4-8 hours or overnight.
STEP FOUR
Once dry, flip the caramel apple over and attach a craft stick to the top center using a glue gun and glue sticks. You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP FIVE
Tie black and white gingham ribbon into bows and trim any long ends with scissors. Attach to the caramel apple with a glue gun and glue sticks. The Dollar Tree craft section is perfect for finding good quality arts and crafts supplies to get creative with the kiddos!
