Summer is here which means road trips, games, and when I was a kid – camping! I love carrying on these traditions with my family, especially if it means unplugging and getting back to nature. I have created a simple how-to DIY a Tic Tac Toe Game from a burlap sack so the kids can play where ever we may go. Get the kiddos involved in creating this project for some fun family time!

Here's what you will need to create a DIY Travel Tic Tac Toe Game:
- Burlap Drawstring Bag – mine is 4″ by 6″
- Americana Paints by DecoArt – I love this sampler pack!
- Americana Dura Clear Varnish by DecoArt
- River Rocks – 12 small and flat
- Painters Tape
- Paint Brush #4 Flat
- Palette – I like to use a small paper plate
- Paper Towels
- Cardboard – a scrap to put inside the burlap bag
Here's how to create a Tic Tac Toe Game in 15 Minutes:
Measure and lightly sketch grid on to burlap bag. Place cardboard scrap inside the bag so the paint doesn't seep through to the other side. Apply painters tape to create two vertical lines 1/4″ wide each. Apply Lavender paint, remove the tape, and let dry. Repeat with horizontal lines, let dry.
Paint X's on six rocks with Laguna paint, let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. Paint O's on six rocks with Sour Apple paint, let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary.
TIP: If you just need a small amount of paint use the paint bottle lid as your palette.
Once the paint is dry, apply two coats of Dura Clear Varnish, letting rocks dry between coats. This will seal the paint onto the rocks and prevent chipping.
Fill the bag with the rocks to travel and then set the game up anywhere to play! Mix and match the paint colors you have on hand to personalize your DIY a Tic Tac Toe Game.
I was super excited to be contacted by the blog Apartment Therapy for my DIY a Tic Tac Toe Game to be featured in a round-up blog post of the Best Outdoor Games to Play in your Backyard. Click through to check out all the fun games that my fellow designers created.
I love the brights pops of vibrant colors against the natural burlap and rocks! Have the kiddos collect rocks from their travels to make this game an extra special keepsake. This DIY a Tic Tac Toe Game is so quick and easy that you can let the kiddos help paint and create it!
