How to Make a Colorful Back-to-School Bulletin Board?
STEP ONE
Y'all know that I love to doodle and draw, so I sketched out these cute as-can-be elements in pencil. A closed crayon box, an open crayon box, and a pair of crayons. Then I inked them in with my favorite MONO Twin permanent marker from Tombow. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
STEP TWO
Download and print these Crayon Bulletin Board Free Printable elements as many times as you would like from the digital file link at the bottom of this post onto white cardstock. For the open crayon box, I selected this school bus yellow color of Kwik Stix, which are solid tempera paint sticks. They twist up and down like a glue stick, and glide over the card like an oil pastel, but are dry to the touch in 90 seconds, so they won't smear!
STEP THREE
Next, I selected this dark greenish-blue color of Kwik Stix for the stripes of the crayon box. There are a TON of color sets, but my favorite is this 30 pack which includes a mix of classic, pastel, metallic, jewel, and earth tone colors. Simply twist up, color, twist back down, and make sure the cap is on when not in use.
STEP FOUR
Once colored, cut out the open crayon box with scissors. Then to create the opening, cut along the top edge of the box with a craft knife on a self-healing mat. I love that the Kwik Stix paint dries almost instantly and the colors won't crack or peel.
STEP FIVE
Follow the steps above to create one crayon for every new student in your classroom. Either have them color in their crayon with the Kwik Stix during meet the teacher, or on the first day of school. To add the names, either print with a permanent marker before the crayons are colored, or use stickers after the crayons are colored. Parents can use this free printable at home to teach the colors of the rainbow to their toddlers.
STEP SIX
Cut out each crayon with scissors. I love the rough and chunky look of the Kwik Stix on these crayons because it makes the bulletin board elements look hand colored. These solid tempera paint sticks come in three sizes – original, jumbo, and thin, so they are perfect for kiddos of all ages – and adults too!
