Here's how to create Shamrocks from Popsicle Sticks
STEP ONE
To create craft stick shamrocks, gather all supplies. To create the large shamrock, line up two sets of three jumbo craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the shamrock pieces and attach them with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Attach the halves together in an “X” pattern with a glue gun and glue sticks. Glue one jumbo craft stick at the base as the stem. TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP TWO
To create the small shamrock, line up two sets of four regular craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional regular craft sticks to the width of the shamrock pieces and attach them with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Glue the halves together in an “X” pattern. Attach one regular craft stick at the base as the stem with a glue gun and glue sticks. If using liquid craft glue, add drying time to complete your popsicle stick shamrocks.
STEP THREE
Basecoat the craft stick shamrocks with Foliage Green, Festive Green, and Forest Green acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
Using a flat basecoat paintbrush apply Foliage Green, Festive Green, and Forest Green acrylic craft paint to the front, back, and sides of the craft stick shamrocks. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.
STEP FOUR
Add patterns to the shamrocks. Create larger polka dots by dipping a sponge dauber in acrylic craft paint and dotting onto the shamrock. Mix and match the dots for unique combinations.
Create mini polka dots by dipping a new pencil eraser in acrylic craft paint and dotting it onto the shamrock in a random pattern. Mix and match colors and patterns to make one-of-a-kind shamrocks.
STEP FIVE
To finish the craft stick shamrocks, tie black and white gingham ribbon or rainbow striped ribbon into bows. Trim the long ends by cutting out a triangular-shaped notch with scissors. The notch gives the bow a finished look while also preventing the ribbon from fraying.
Attach the bows to either the center or the stem of each shamrock using a glue gun and glue sticks. The black and white or rainbow-striped ribbon bows create a nice contrast to the green shamrocks.
