Here's how to create a Popsicle Stick Jack-O-Lantern
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. To create the large Jack-O-Lantern, line up five jumbo craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the pumpkin and attach with a glue gun and glue sticks. To create the medium Jack-O-Lantern, line up five regular craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the pumpkin and attach with a glue gun and glue sticks. To create the small Jack-O-Lantern, line up six mini craft sticks on your work surface. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the pumpkin and attach with a glue gun and glue sticks.
TIP: You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP TWO
Basecoat the large pumpkin with Spiced Pumpkin acrylic craft paint, the medium pumpkin with Warm Sunset acrylic craft paint, and the small pumpkin with Burnt Orange acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP THREE
Download, print, and cut out the CRAFT STICK JACK-O-LANTERN PATTERNS from the bottom of this post. Trace the eyes, noses, and mouths onto black craft foam with a pencil. Cut out with scissors. Attach the features to the pumpkins with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP FOUR
Basecoat one jumbo and one regular craft stick with dark brown acrylic craft paint. Let dry, and apply a second coat, if necessary.
Cut the ends from the painted craft sticks and then attach them to the top center of the Jack-O-Lanterns with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP FIVE
Twist a green chenille stem around a pencil, then slide off. Cut into three sections with scissors and attach to the right and/or left side of the Jack-O-Lantern stems with a glue gun and glue sticks. The Dollar Tree craft section is perfect for finding good quality arts and crafts supplies to get creative with the kiddos!
