Dollar Tree Popsicle Stick Acorn
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. To create each acorn, line up five jumbo craft sticks on your work surface in a graduated pattern. Using scissors, trim additional jumbo craft sticks to the width of the acorn and attach them with a glue gun and glue sticks.
Trim the top edge of the craft sticks even with the shortest craft stick using scissors. Craft or popsicle sticks are such a versatile materials to use while getting creative with the kiddos.
STEP TWO
Basecoat the front and sides of the acorns with Milk Chocolate acrylic craft paint. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP THREE
Download, print, and cut out the ACORN PATTERN from the bottom of this post. Trace twice onto dark brown craft foam. Cut out the patterns with scissors. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies that won’t blow your budget!
STEP FOUR
Attach the craft foam acorn caps to the top of the acorn bases with a glue gun and glue sticks. You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
Using a detail paintbrush create an “X” pattern on the craft foam with Milk Chocolate acrylic craft paint. You could also use a brown paint pen and a scallop pattern.
STEP FIVE
Add a face to the acorn by attaching two wiggle eyes with a glue gun and glue sticks. Add cheeks by dipping a new pencil eraser in Bubblegum Pink acrylic craft paint and dotting on either side of the face.
Once the cheeks are dry, draw a mouth from cheek to cheek with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
Tie a bow with natural jute twine then trim any long end with scissors. Ribbon would also work well for this project.
To finish the acorn, attach the natural jute twine bows to the acorn stem with a glue gun and glue sticks.
