Here's how to create a Turkey Decoration for Thanksgiving:
STEP ONE
Paint wooden ball knob with Americana Dark Chocolate let dry and then apply a second coat, if necessary. Attach the wooden ball knob to the bottom of the clay pot with a glue gun and glue sticks. Cut a triangle beak from Gold Felt, a waddle from Ruby Felt, and then attach to the turkey's face. Create two Americana Lamp Black ovals for eyes and two lines for eyebrows. Add highlights to both eyes with a dot of Americana Titanium White.
STEP TWO
Cut out a large rainbow shape from Sandstone Felt and then cut triangular notches around the outside for the turkey's feathers. Cut smaller turkey feathers from brown calico fabric and attach to felt with MONO Multi Liquid Glue. Attach feathers to the back of the turkey body with a glue gun.
STEP THREE
Add a message to the base of the turkey with embroidered letters from the craft store. Remove the white letters from the sheet, layout on several layers of paper towel, and mist with spray stain in walnut brown, let dry. Attach to the front center of the turkey body with MONO Multi Liquid Glue and the fine tip applicator. TIP: I use this hack all the time. Purchase white embroidered letters, stickers, chipboard, etc., and color them to custom match every project.
STEP FOUR
Measure and cut two strips of yellow calico fabric one inch wide by 18″ long from the fat quarter with scissors. Knot loosely in the middle to create knees. Cut two turkey feet from Gold Felt and glue them to the bottom of the turkey legs. Attach the top of the turkey legs to the inside, front center of the turkey body with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP FIVE
To finish the Clay Pot Turkey Thanksgiving decoration tie a golden yellow ribbon around his neck. TIP: I used the same hack as the letters. Purchase white seam binding ribbon and custom color with a spray stain to match every project!
Create a Clay Pot Turkey Thanksgiving Decoration in 30 Minutes
I used to make these Clay Pot Turkey Thanksgiving decorations with my Nieces and Nephews when they were little. Back then I substituted silk leaves from the dollar store, left off the legs and hand wrote names on the clay pot to use as place cards for the Thanksgiving table.
This newly updated version of the Clay Pot Turkey Thanksgiving decoration turned out just the way I had imagined. It is so warm and inviting with just a bit of country charm.
