Terra Cotta Pot Pilgrim Hat
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Remove the paper tag from the clay pots. Basecoat the clay pot with Zinc Grey acrylic craft paint. Let the paint dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP TWO
Download, print, and cut out the PILGRIM HAT PATTERNS from the bottom of this post. Trace the buckle pattern onto Gold Kunin Classic Felt with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. Cut out with scissors inside the traced lines. Use craft foam or colored cardstock instead of felt.
STEP THREE
Attach the black grosgrain ribbon around the clay pot just above the rim using a glue gun and glue sticks. Glue the gold felt buckle to the front of the pilgrim hat. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies which won’t blow your budget!
STEP FOUR
Add a face to the pilgrim hat by attaching two wiggle eyes with a glue gun and glue sticks. Add cheeks by dipping a new pencil eraser in Bubblegum Pink acrylic craft paint and dotting it on either side of the face.
STEP FIVE
Trace the hat brim pattern twice onto Smoke Grey Kunin Classic Felt with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. Cut out with scissors inside the traced lines. Kunin Classic Felt comes in 9″ by 12″ Craft Cuts that make all your DIY projects quick and easy since it won't fray when cut.
STEP SIX
Attach the felt circles on top of each other with a glue gun and glue sticks. Then glue the hat brim to the base of the pilgrim hat.
Once the cheeks are dry, draw a smile from cheek to cheek with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
