Here's what you need to make Terra Cotta Pot Love Bugs with Dollar Tree Supplies:

- Paper Doilies – Dollar Tree®
- Rhinestones, Heart Shaped – Dollar Tree®
- Glue Gun and Glue Sticks – Dollar Tree®

- Scissors – I LOVE my Fiskars!
- Pencil with new Eraser
Here's how to create Love Bugs from Clay Pots for Valentine's Day:
STEP ONE
To begin the Dollar Tree Clay Pot Love Bugs, remove the paper tag from the clay pots. Basecoat one clay pot in each color, Santa Red, Peony Pink, and Baby Pink. Let dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP TWO
Cut the chenille stem into four-inch sections, bend them in half, and then attach a large pom pom to each end with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP THREE
Add a face to the love bug with wiggle eyes, and a small pom pom nose, then draw on a smile. Accent mouth with cheeks created by dipping a new pencil eraser in the paint. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
STEP FOUR
Create wings by cutting a triangle from each circular doily with scissors. Gather the opposite end and attach the wing to the back of the love bug with the glue gun.
STEP FIVE
Attach a heart-shaped rhinestone to each love bug with the glue gun. Accent the base of each love bug with contrasting polka dots created by dipping a new pencil eraser in the paint and using it as a stamp.

Thanks for stopping by!
I just love how these are made and I am going to attempt to make these on a gigantic scale. I have great big tree pots outside and since they’re black plastic I will need to paint them. BUT how I can create the wings (that size) that’s what I have to figure that one out. I’m not sure what to do there but it will be an interesting attempt.

Great idea, Kathleen! Make sure to get spray paint that works on plastic for the flower pots and maybe use plastic plates from the Dollar Store as wings?? Good luck and make sure to share your finished project with me!!
