Here's how to create Leprechaun Hats from Clay Pots
STEP ONE
To begin the Dollar Tree Leprechaun Hats Kids Craft, gather all materials then remove all packaging and labels. Basecoat three 2.5” clay pots with three different shades of Americana acrylic craft paint such as Festive Green, Holly Green, and Kelly Green. Let the paint dry and then apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP TWO
Once the clay pots are dry, apply a black grosgrain ribbon around the circumference, just above the rim with a glue gun and glue sticks. You can use liquid craft glue for this project but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP THREE
Measure a one-inch by one-inch square of gold glitter craft paper and cut out with scissors. Apply the gold glitter buckle to the front of the hat with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP FOUR
Tie a bow from the grosgrain rainbow ribbon, cut a triangular notch from the tail ends, and attach it to the center of the gold glitter buckle with a glue gun and glue sticks. Cutting a fishtail into the end of the ribbon will prevent it from fraying.
STEP FIVE
Download and print the Leprechaun Hat Shamrock Pattern from the bottom of this post. Cut out the shamrock shape with scissors, and then trace onto bright green, olive green, kelly green, and lime green craft paper. Cut out shamrock shapes with scissors.
STEP SIX
Decorate the paper shamrocks with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker, adding either a pattern or the recipient’s name. Attach to Leprechaun Hat with a glue gun and glue sticks. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
