Clay Pot Harvest Corn Kids Craft
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Remove the paper tag from the clay pots. Basecoat the clay pot with Buttermilk acrylic craft paint. Let the paint dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies which won’t blow your budget!
STEP TWO
Using a #4 small brush add corn kernels in rows with Mustard Seed acrylic craft paint in a random pattern around half of the clay pot harvest corn.
Add additional kernels with Spiced Pumpkin acrylic craft paint. Hold the clay pot at an angle and dab the paintbrush on the surface to create the kernels.
Using Honey Brown acrylic craft paint, add more kernels to the harvest corn in a random pattern around the top and sides of the clay pot. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
Repeat the above steps using Deep Burgundy acrylic craft paint and the #4 detail paintbrush. Don’t worry if the kernels aren’t exact, as a real cob of corn isn’t perfect.
Add the final kernels to the clay pot harvest corn using Milk Chocolate acrylic craft paint. Refer to a photo of an ear of multi-colored harvest corn for inspiration.
STEP THREE
Download, print, and cut out the CLAY POT HARVEST CORN PATTERNS from the bottom of this post. Trace the husk patterns onto Olive Green Kunin Classic Felt with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. Cut out inside the traced lines with scissors.
STEP FOUR
Attach the double husk to the back of the clay pot with a glue gun and glue sticks. Pinch the glue through the felt to create dimension. Use craft foam or colored cardstock instead of felt. You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP FIVE
Place a small line of glue at the bottom of the single husk, and pinch in the center to create dimension. Attach to the back of the clay pot with a glue gun and glue sticks.
STEP SIX
Add a face to the harvest corn by attaching two wiggle eyes with a glue gun and glue sticks. Add cheeks by dipping a new pencil eraser in Bubblegum Pink acrylic craft paint and dotting on either side of the face.
To finish the clay pot harvest corn, draw a mouth from cheek to cheek with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
