Flowerpot Acorns for Fall
STEP ONE
Gather all supplies. Remove the paper tag from the clay pots. Basecoat the base of the clay pot with Light Cinnamon acrylic craft paint. Basecoat the rim of the clay pot and the clay saucer with Dark Chocolate acrylic craft paint. Let all paint dry and apply a second coat, if necessary. I love Americana Acrylics from DecoArt because they have one-coat coverage on most surfaces.
STEP TWO
Using a detail paintbrush, create an “X” pattern around the rim of the clay pot with Light Cinnamon acrylic craft paint. Place the clay saucer on top of the pot as a lid and continue the cross-hatching pattern. You could also use a light brown paint pen and a scallop pattern.
STEP THREE
Attach a wooden stem to the top center of the clay saucer with a glue gun and glue sticks. This bundle of wooden stems was found at Dollar Tree, but you could use a tree branch from the yard. You can use liquid craft glue for this project, but you will have to wait for it to dry.
STEP FOUR
Add a face to the acorn by attaching two wiggle eyes with a glue gun and glue sticks. Add cheeks by dipping a new pencil eraser in Bubblegum Pink acrylic craft paint and dotting on either side of the face.
STEP FIVE
Draw a mouth from cheek to cheek with the MONO Twin permanent black marker. I love drawing and tracing with the MONO Twin Permanent Marker from Tombow because it has a large bullet tip and a small extra fine tip.
STEP SIX
To finish the acorn, tie a bow with natural jute twine and glue it to the wooden stem. Any type of ribbon will accent this clay pot acorn craft nicely as well. Dollar Tree has such a HUGE selection of materials that can be upcycled and good quality craft supplies which won’t blow your budget!
