How do you make a poseable Pickett the Bowtruckle from Felt?
STEP ONE
To begin the Bendable Bowtruckle Bookmark, gather all supplies. Download and print the pattern sheet at the bottom of this post. Roughly cut out the pattern with scissors.
Attach the Bowtruckle Felt Bookmark pattern onto two layers of Neon Green Kunin Classic Felt with straight pins.
STEP TWO
Carefully cut out the Bowtruckle pattern from the Neon Green Felt with scissors. Use Fiskars Micro Tip Detail Scissors to cut away at the intricate areas.
STEP THREE
If crafting with younger kids, or if you find the double layer of felt challenging to cut. Then trace the pattern onto the felt and cut out the pattern one layer of felt at a time.
STEP FOUR
Outline the Bowtruckle with green floral wire. Bend into shape with your hands and then attach to the felt with a glue gun and glue sticks. Low temp glue works best with felt.
STEP FIVE
Continue bending and gluing the floral wire until the entire Bowtruckle shape has been outlined. Use silicone fingertip protectors, to gently tap the wire into the glue.
STEP SIX
Carefully attach the top layer of Neon Green Kunin Classic Felt to the bottom with a glue gun and glue sticks. Go slowly and work in small sections. Don’t press too hard or the glue will bleed through the felt and leave a permanent spot that looks “wet”.
STEP SEVEN
Dimensional fabric paint is versatile, but make sure that you practice on some scraps of felt before you start to give Pickett all of his details. I tested out several colors before deciding on the three that represented our Bowtruckle friend the best. This set of Tulip Dimensional Fabric Paints Slick includes White, Brown, and Crab Apple Green which are the perfect match! Gently tap the nozzle of the paint on a hard surface to get all of the air bubbles out prior to beginning to outline the bookmark.
STEP EIGHT
Using the photo as your guide, draw the brown dimensional fabric paint onto the Bowtruckle’s fingers and toes. If you get an air bubble in your paint simply pop it with a wooden toothpick or straight pin. Use the nozzle of the container to blend the brown dimensional paint into the Neon Green Felt.
Add brown painted details to the Bowtruckle’s leaves at the top of his head, and then draw on the brown eyes.
STEP NINE
Outline the Bowtruckle’s body following the lines on the pattern sheet with Crab Apple Green dimensional fabric paint. Give the paint tube light pressure for thin lines and heavier pressure for thicker lines.
Add green details to the Bowtruckle’s leaves at the top of his head and then draw on a green mouth.
STEP TEN
To finish the Bowtruckle Felt Bookmark, add a small highlight to each eye with white dimensional fabric paint. Set aside to allow the dimensional fabric paint to dry completely according to the directions on the package.
